The innovative drivetrain in the Outlander PHEV allows drivers to switch between three drive modes:
- EV: this mode uses full-electric power to drive the vehicle.
- Series Hybrid: this mode uses electric power with assistance from the engine. The engine generates electricity when the battery level is low, or to increase power when climbing an incline or accelerating.
- Parallel Hybrid: in this mode, the engine powers the vehicle with assistance from the electric motors when extra power is required.
